Rwanda’s Southern Province Police trained managers, staff and nurses at Kabutare Hospital, in Huye District, on how to prevent and fight fires and what to do in the event of a fire.
This training was given as part of a campaign that the Rwanda Police continues to work with the public and other agencies, with the aim of preventing fires, reducing their impact and increasing the ability to respond early.
The Spokesperson of the Rwanda Police in the Southern Province, CIP Hassan Kamanzi, said that this training is aimed at helping staff and those who suffer from the disease to know their role in preventing and fighting the disease.
He said: “It is an activity that aims to educate, train and remind managers, employees and patients of Kabutare Hospital about their role in preventing, preventing and fighting fires.”
CIP Kamanzi said that the knowledge provided in this training helps people to know how to behave when a fire starts, and to know how to use tools that help them prevent or extinguish it before they reach the level of needing the help of the authorities.
He said: “It is a training that we are giving in order to prevent fires, so that the people know what to do when they encounter a fire using different tools.”
During the training, CIP A. Murwanashyaka, who works in the Rwanda Police department responsible for preventing and extinguishing fires and rescuing those in danger, explained to the participants the types of fires, what can cause them, their consequences and measures to help prevent them.
Staff and attendants are also taught how to use fire extinguishers and other basic firefighting techniques. This is to help them act quickly and safely in the event of a fire, while they wait for help from the authorities.
Dr Jean Pierre Uzabakiriho, Director of Health Operations at Kabutare Hospital, thanked the Police for the training, saying that it is important for staff and patients because the hospital is a place that needs special security and protection.
He said: “We thank the Police for giving us this training because it is important, it helps us to know how to avoid fire, how to behave when it happens and how to use equipment to extinguish it.”
Nzitonda Serge, one of the participants of this training, said that it helped him to increase his knowledge on how to prevent and deal with fire.
He said: “This training helped me to know more about fire, especially how to prevent it, how to react in case of fire and how to use fire extinguisher.”
Mizero Bella Scovia also said that the knowledge they received will help them to be more interested and involved in preventing cancer.
He said: “I learned that fire prevention is not only the responsibility of firefighters, but that everyone has a role in preventing it and taking action when it starts.”
This training was held at Kabutare Hospital and aims to increase the knowledge and capacity of staff and patients in preventing infections, detecting them early and taking action safely when they occur.
Rwanda Police continues to ask the public and various institutions to continue to pay attention and take measures to prevent fires, because prevention and early detection of the problem is one of the most important things that help reduce damage and those who may be affected.
