The fire that attacked the Muhabura volcano, extinguishing operations are ongoing

BURERA — The fire that attacked parts of the Muhabura volcano on the morning of this Friday, August 14, 2026, is causing concern to the people of the nearby areas.

Inhabitants of Kamanyana Cell, Cyanika Sector, Burera District, say they were surprised to see a huge fire burning on the Muhabura volcano.

The administration of Cyanika Sector announced that as soon as it found out about this crime, it immediately started operations to suppress it, in collaboration with the Rwanda Police, the people and the administration of Burera District.

Prince Sebagabo, who leads the Cyanika Sector, said that the news of this disaster was known in the morning, and the relevant agencies immediately started rescue operations.

He said: “It was in the morning of this Friday that we also learned that a huge fire is burning on the Muhabura volcano. The authorities immediately rushed to help. The Rwandan police, the people and the administration of the Burera District started operations to put out this fire.”

For now, firefighting operations are ongoing, while the authorities and the people are fighting this fire to prevent it from spreading further into the volcano.

The Muhabura volcano is located in the volcanic mountains area, which borders Gahunga, Rugarama and Cyanika sectors of Burera District.

At this time, there are no reports of damage or injuries.
