Marcus Rashford has been given a new chance at Manchester United, after being given a new shirt number on his return from Carrington.
The England international will now wear the number 14, replacing the number 10 he used to wear before moving to Barcelona on loan.
This change is seen as a sign that Manchester United’s new manager, Michael Carrick, wants to bring him back into the starting line-up.
Will Rashford be given new confidence?
According to reliable player behavior reporter, Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United gave Rashford the number 14 as a sign of confidence in him after his return from Spain.
The number 10 he used to wear has now been given to Matheus Cunha, Manchester United’s new signing this summer. This prompted Rashford to change his number before the start of the new season.
Romano said:
“Manchester United have decided to give Marcus Rashford a new number in order to show that they trust him and count him as a member of the team. Rashford will wear number 14 and is now with the club. Unless there is a big European club that buys him, he can stay at Manchester United.”
The 28-year-old has already joined Carrick’s squad for a training session in Dublin, Ireland, where Manchester United are preparing for the new year in the Premier League.
Staying in Barcelona is no longer popular
Rashford would like to continue playing for Barcelona after having a fantastic year in Spain.
In Barcelona, he scored 14 goals and provided 14 goals in 49 games, and helped the team win the La Liga and Spanish Super Cup titles.
However, Barcelona prioritized signing other players including Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi, making Rashford return to Manchester United.
Prior to Barcelona, Rashford also played for Aston Villa, where he scored four goals and provided six assists in 17 games.
