Ngororero — Two children drowned in Nyabarongo, the search for them is ongoing

Ngororero: Two children from Ngororero Sector, Ngororero District, drowned in Nyabarongo after going for a swim, in the section connecting Ngororero District and Muhanga District.

This accident happened on the evening of August 13, 2026, when the children went swimming in Nyabarongo, and ended up drowning.

The leader of Ngororero Sector, Barekayo JMV, told Ikirezi Media that the administration found out about the accident after the help of the people.

He said: “That’s right, we got the news in the evening hours, when the people called us and told us that there are two children who went swimming in Nyabarongo and drowned. Since then we started looking for them, but so far we haven’t found them.”

The search for these children continues

Since the news of the accident, authorities have launched a search operation for the children, but as of this writing, they have not been found.

The administration continues to monitor the search for the children in the Nyabarongo water, while the public is asked to provide all information that can help in the search.

Management asks parents to take care of children’s safety

After this accident, the Director of Ngororero Sector asked parents and the community in general to monitor their children more, especially during the holidays.

He asked parents to prevent children from swimming in rivers or other unsupervised places, because it can cause accidents and even death.
